The Genesis Referee Program (GRP) is an introductory referee development program that helps the new referees become fully certified by the end of the program. Candidates for the program need to be at least 13yrs old by the start of the season. The referees in this program will referee 2nd and 3rd grade games in a less competitive environment that allows them to gain experience and confidence as a referee. The participants that complete the program will have a simplified process to becoming a fully certified referee which allows them to referee BAYS games the following season. How the program works:
- WYSA's referee assignor administers the program on behalf of MYSA and MSRC.
- Referee Candidates attend a training session (classroom or online) emphasizing practical advice to become a referee with particular emphasis on SAFETY. The module takes approximately 90 minutes to deliver and is taught by a US Soccer certified Mentor.
- Referee Candidates must be in the program at least one season (minimum six games refereed.) They referee games and are mentored in – town by local referees.
- Once the Referee Candidates reaches the minimum age of 13 and has refereed at least one season (6 games) they are eligible to be evaluated.
- Evaluations are done by certified Referee Mentors or Referee Coaches.
- Once the Referee Candidates passes the evaluation, they are notified by the Certified Mentor.
- They will get an email from the MSRC Administrator, inviting them to register for the MSRC Website.
